NIH K and Career Development Awards

CHPS may be able to waive some or all charges for services for peer-reviewed K and other mentored career development awards for junior faculty where at least 50% salary support is awarded to the Principal Investigator. Fee waivers for these studies will be for the duration of the award only. However, Principal Investigators may be charged fees for supplies. Waivers may be limited for large studies utilizing many CHPS services, if the magnitude of the request jeopardizes the availability of resources for other projects.

For junior faculty on institutional K slots and post-doctoral fellows on institutional T32 slots or equivalent mentored-training awards, CHPS may be able to waive charges for nursing, biostatistics, and informatics core services. For additional core requests, provide mentor’s Other Support, including overlap with the trainee’s project.

If you are applying for a career develoment award, we recommend that you reach out to the Directors of the Cores that you plan to use to discuss your research. Please contact the CHPS Administrative Staff to discuss the cost of CHPS services and other logistical issues.

To request a fee waiver, email John Krall, Administrative Director, krallj [at], and include the title of your project, the aims/objectives, hypothesis, funding source/grant type and a detailed list of CHPS services you will requesting. You are also required to obtain a Price Request through Clinical Trials Financial Management (CTFM) that lists all the CHPS services utilized by this project and their cost. Please provide a copy of the completed budget. Also, let us know if you would like a letter of support for your project. Once we receive the request and budget, CHPS leadership will review and determine if we are able to support the research.

If you have questions or need additional information, please contact John Krall.
